Formula 500 is a compact, winged open-wheel speedway class built around a motorcycle engine. Cars run a naturally aspirated, carburetted four-stroke (or two-stroke) engine capped at 500cc mounted to a lightweight space-frame chassis, typically on methanol, with a top wing for grip. The class evolved from the Three-Quarter Midgets (TQs) of the 1950s and '60s and remains one of speedway's most accessible and affordable categories — high-revving, nimble, and fiercely competitive, with a Junior Formula 500 division that makes it a key grassroots pathway into the sport.
