Known globally as 'The Mountain,' Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, NSW, is arguably the most iconic motorsport venue in Australia. Since its opening as a scenic drive in 1938, the track has evolved into a world-renowned racing cathedral that challenges even the most seasoned drivers. Its unique layout combines public roads with narrow, winding technical sections that hug the hillside, offering a staggering 174-meter elevation change that provides both breathtaking views and terrifying high-speed descents. The venue is most famous for hosting the Bathurst 1000, often referred to as 'The Great Race.' This endurance event for Supercars is a cornerstone of Australian culture, drawing hundreds of thousands of fans to the slopes of the mountain every October. Beyond the V8s, the circuit also hosts the Bathurst 12 Hour, an international GT3 endurance classic, and the Bathurst 6 Hour, showcasing a diverse range of production cars. The sheer speed reached on Conrod Straight—exceeding 300km/h—contrasts sharply with the precision required to navigate the concrete walls of The Dipper and Skyline. What truly sets Mount Panorama apart is its dual identity as a public thoroughfare. On non-race days, visitors can drive the 6.2-kilometer loop at the standard road limit, gaining a firsthand perspective of the daunting gradients and camber changes that define the circuit. The atmosphere during a major race weekend is electric, with 'The Hill' becoming a sea of flags and campfires, cementing its status as a pilgrimage site for fans of circuit racing and high-performance motorsport.

Bathurst is located approximately 200 kilometers west of Sydney. The drive takes about three hours via the Great Western Highway through the Blue Mountains. If traveling from other regional centers like Orange or Lithgow, the Mid-Western Highway and Mitchell Highway provide direct access to the city center. During major race events, access to the mountain is strictly controlled. Extensive temporary parking areas are established around the bottom of the circuit, and shuttle bus services frequently run from the Bathurst CBD and local campgrounds. For those visiting on non-event days, the track is open to the public as a one-way scenic drive, though strict speed limits are enforced by local police.
