Sprintcar Speedweek: Round 3

Round 3 of the Brandt Sprintcars Speedweek arrives at Mount Gambier's Borderline Speedway, closing out three race nights, at three tracks, in three days and completing the South Australian leg of this five-round series. Held over seven days across SA and Victoria, Speedweek is a test of endurance as much as speed — and by night three, the toll is written across every pit bay in tired crews and thinning spare parts. Borderline's Limestone Coast bullring has long been a favourite of the sprintcar community, and its passionate local crowd brings genuine atmosphere to a night that often separates the title contenders from the rest. With the standings now taking shape, this is where a strong start can be protected or a shaky one salvaged, before the series packs up and points itself toward the Victorian border for the final two nights.

Borderline Speedway is one of Australia's most respected dirt track venues, located just outside Mount Gambier in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. Established in the early 1960s, the circuit is famous for its high-banked clay oval which facilitates high-speed, wheel-to-wheel racing. The track is widely praised by drivers for its wide racing lanes and the multiple lines it offers, making it a staple on the national speedway calendar. It has a reputation for being a 'driver’s track' that rewards precision and bravery in equal measure. Over the decades, Borderline has played host to some of the most prestigious events in the country, including several Australian Sprintcar Championships and regular rounds of the World Series Sprintcars. Perhaps its most famous annual fixture is the Kings Challenge, held every January. This event serves as a major prelude to the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, often attracting a world-class field that includes top-tier stars from the American World of Outlaws series. The venue provides a classic speedway atmosphere with a mix of grandstand seating and grass embankments that offer excellent views of the entire circuit. Beyond Sprintcars, the track regularly features categories such as Speedcars, Wingless Sprints, Street Stocks, and Junior Sedans, ensuring a diverse program of motorsport throughout the summer season.

The speedway is situated approximately 10 kilometres east of the Mount Gambier city center, directly off the Princes Highway (A1) heading towards the Victorian border. It is easily accessible by car, with clear signage indicating the entrance on the northern side of the highway. Ample grass parking is available on-site for spectators, including designated areas for disabled access and corporate guests. Public transport options to the track are limited, so driving or using a local taxi/rideshare service is recommended.
